The photosphere is the innermost layer of the sun's atmosphere. All of the light that the sun produces comes from this layer. The light the sun produces has infrared, UV, and of course, visible light. Also sunspots occur on this layer. Sunspots are areas of gas that are cooler than the rest of the surface. From here the photons are free, and can go anywhere in space, including earth.
