The corona is an aura of plasma that surrounds the sun. It extends for millions of kilometers into space. It is most easily seen during a total solar eclipse, but can also be observed with a coronagraph. Plasma is a collection of charged particles, both positive and negative, that act in a collective way because of attracting and repelling forces. Plasma is also considered to be a state of matter.
